Five Pentacles Tarot: An Explanation

Five Pentacles Tarot

Loss, grief, unmet expectations, disappointments are all challenging human experiences to go through. Five Pentacles Tarot Card wants to teach us that these events are also integral to the human experience.

Most of us want to have fun, be happy, indulge, and experience highs as often as possible.

The thing is, that is not realistic, nor is it what Spirit intended for us.

Whilst our Spirit is here in the earthly realm, moving through the lesson of a human experience, we are meant to experience all aspects of life. I am not saying that lightly because I know that people out there are going through the most horrific experiences.

On my Five Pentacles Tarot Card, a person is sitting on a stool, with his head bowed, and everything around the person seems a bit dim. Next to him, a river is flowing, and behind him, there is a single green tree. You can see that the pentacles are spread out on the card’s corners.

I believe the river represents the waters of life, which is constantly flowing, regardless of our circumstances. We live in the water of life right now, reminding us that we are supposed to experience all aspects of the human experience.

With the five pentacles spread out as they are, I believe that is to meant to signal never spread yourself too thin and never become complacent.

We can quickly become complacent in our modern lifestyle because everything is convenient, at least in the West. Turn on the tap; water flows, open the fridge, most of the time, there is food.

Therefore, regularly we must count our blessings and be grateful for what is.

I am not suggesting that we should not strive more, not at all. At the same time, that must be well balanced with gratefulness, acceptance, and a simple thank you to the cosmos that we have a roof over our heads in this life.

To the person who is bowing their head in their lap, everything seems lost, not working out in the way they expected. I think the Five Pentacles Tarot card tries to show us that feeling like this is ok. In equal measure to feeling joy. Because again, that is all an essential facet of the human experience.

When the Five Pentacles Tarot Card shows up in a Psychic Tarot Reading with a client, I am often unsure about how to approach the message because it may, at first, seem a bit hopeless. In my view, though, I believe this card often only represents an intermittent experience of lowness and that there is always a path back to goodness.

In my readings, when the Five Pentacles Tarot Card shows up, I always provide the person I am working with a path back to feeling better. Anything else would be unethical, and it would also not be good reading. Anyone who works with individuals in this way should provide them with guidance on how to improve their situation. Because, even on the dimmest of days, there is a way back to shore.

There are, of course, many other interpretations of the card too.

What you have just read is my take on this particular tarot card.

How to activate the healing energy of the Five Pentacles Tarot Card

Take 5-minutes to take stock of what is going on for you. Sit down, write it all out in as much detail as possible and then decide which are you will start working at first. Do not try to address everything at once. That will not serve you well.

Afterwards, make a list and begin working yourself through it. When you are finished with one point, strike it off the list.

Taking action is healing.

Spend another 5-minutes in silence to start becoming aware of your feelings and thoughts. What shows up for you? If 5-minutes feels uncomfortable, start with shorter intervals and then expand. Begin to diagnose the stories you are telling yourself about yourself. Are they true, or is it something you can rewrite?

Meditation is healing.

Talk to a friend or a therapist/spiritual practitioner about what you are going through. Do not try to address whatever you are going through all by yourself. We need help, and there is no shame in asking for it.

Talking is healing.
